Elron halts eastern trains after rail infrastructure damaged

Estonia’s state-owned passenger rail operator Elron suspended train services east of Tallinn for at least half a day after an under-construction overhead contact network was damaged between Kohtla-Nõmme and Püssi stations, ERR reported.

The first Narva to Tallinn train was stopped between Kohtla-Nõmme and Püssi and could not continue towards Tallinn, Elron communications manager Kristo Mäe said in a statement. Passengers will be taken to their destinations by bus as soon as possible.

Elron later clarified that trains were not running between Püssi and Narva. Eesti Raudtee, the infrastructure owner, estimated that repairs would continue until around noon.

Elron will arrange replacement bus services as necessary while Eesti Raudtee removes the obstruction. The operator advised passengers to check its website for the latest information.

Elron refunds the cost of a journey when a train is delayed by 30 minutes or more. Passengers seeking compensation must complete a refund form on the company’s website.

Elron, the brand of AS Eesti Liinirongid, is a state-owned operator that provides passenger rail services on tracks owned by Eesti Raudtee and Edelaraudtee. Elron trains carried out 7.66 million journeys in 2025.
