Small aircraft crashes into sea near Jūrmala, one person rescued

A small aircraft crashed into the Gulf of Riga several hundred metres from the shore near Jūrmala on Saturday afternoon, with one person rescued from the water, LSM reported, citing the State Fire and Rescue Service.

Authorities received information about the aircraft at 1:24 p.m. Municipal police officers rescued one person and brought them ashore by jet ski. The person was handed over to the Emergency Medical Service.

Firefighters searched the crash site by boat but found no signs of a substance leak or additional people in the water.

The information was forwarded to the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre.
