Blasting is planned in Rugāji Parish, in Balvi Municipality, to safely and controllably neutralise a drone shot down in Latvian territory, LSM reports, citing Latvia’s National Armed Forces.
The work at the site of the downed unmanned aircraft’s debris was continuing on Friday evening. Residents in Rugāji Parish and nearby areas may hear a loud explosion, the armed forces said.
NATO Baltic air policing fighters shot down the foreign drone after it entered Latvian airspace as a result of Russian electronic warfare, according to LSM.
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that some of the debris fell into a lake. They said residents in the area where the drone was shot down faced no safety risks, but asked people to report any discovered debris to police.
