Klaipėda sends 99 Navy soldiers into reserve

LRT reported that 99 soldiers from the Lithuanian Navy’s General Kazimieras Nestoras Sapiega Fusilier Battalion were transferred to the reserve on Friday after completing nine months of compulsory military service at the Klaipėda Castle site.

Many of the young men had chosen to serve voluntarily. The soldiers were congratulated at a formation by Chief of the Defence Staff Rear Admiral Giedrius Premeneckas, battalion commander Commander Gediminas Šimkevičius, instructors, relatives and friends.

All the soldiers received commendations, while those who stood out during their service were awarded higher military ranks. Sailor Nojus Brukštus was named the best soldier and received the Navy medal For Exemplary Service.

During their nine months of service, the soldiers completed the Basic Soldier Course, studying tactics, engineering, topography, medicine and other military subjects. They later gained specialised skills and trained as guides, communications operators, senior riflemen, machine gunners, grenade launchers, marksmen and rescue riflemen.

While serving in the Security Company, the soldiers also took part in field tactical exercises, training to follow commanders’ orders in various conditions and operate as a unified team.
