Musician Meisterjaan is preparing a song with Valge Tüdruk that they hope to enter Eesti Laul, ERR reported. He also recently released a spontaneous techno EP, “Unintelligent Dance Music,” which differs from his previous style.

“It sounds like it wants to jump, it sounds a little ecstatic, as the name of the album says. Releasing this EP was very spontaneous,” Meisterjaan said on Raadio 2’s “R2 Hommik!” programme.

He said the release marked a departure from his two previous albums, which featured songs with lyrics and a pop-oriented sound.

“As Meisterjaan, I’m currently at a point where I’ve made two albums in which all the songs have lyrics and are pop-oriented. In some ways, it seemed strange to suddenly release a techno EP, but I thought that if I didn’t go too far with it and simply put it out, I could do it,” he said.

Meisterjaan said he lives with his family on Vilsandi, an island, and rarely travels to the mainland. He visits it about once a week and goes to Tallinn even less often, mainly for concerts.

He described the summer on Vilsandi as relaxed, with long breakfasts, coffee, time by the sea and occasional fishing trips.

“I wake up, we’re there with the family, and around 12 we have breakfast. We make coffee, and it all takes a very long time. Then we need to go to the sea, and then we need to start thinking about lunch. That’s how the days pass,” he said.

Meisterjaan added that he had several small projects under way and that his next demos were already taking shape.

“I can hint that there is something we might even try to take to Eesti Laul. We have a song in progress with Valge Tüdruk. We’ll see whether it works at all, but I’m thinking that if this song doesn’t work, what will?” he said. He added that more pop-oriented material was also coming.
