Minister promises one-stop social services for seniors

Social and Labour Minister Inga Ruginienė says Lithuania plans to provide social services for older people through a one-stop system, with a bill expected to be submitted to the Seimas in autumn, LRT reports.

Ruginienė said services are currently divided between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Security and Labour.

“People will finally receive care through a one-stop system. At present, social services for older people are split between two institutions: part is managed by the Ministry of Health and part by the Ministry of Social Security and Labour,” Ruginienė told journalists on Wednesday.

She said officials were finalising a plan to create a unified system, adding that the issue had long been avoided because of its complexity and the financial resources involved.

“I am very pleased that we have such a positive attitude with the current minister as well, and I hope we will be able to submit the bill in autumn,” Ruginienė said.
