Sinkevičius to make Latvia first foreign visit as prime minister

Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius will make Latvia his first foreign visit next week, LRT reported, citing his press representative Gedas Salyga. He also plans to visit Estonia later.

“The Baltic states are the prime minister’s first foreign-visit destination,” Salyga told ELTA. Sinkevičius aims to intensify cooperation among the Baltic countries, he said.

During the visits, officials will discuss common security and defence issues, illegal migration from Belarus, culture and other relevant matters.

Sinkevičius had previously said he wanted to make Germany his first foreign visit.

ELTA reported that Sinkevičius and other members of the new Cabinet were sworn in by the Seimas after the programme of the 21st Government was approved in mid-July. His government was formed by the parliamentary groups of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, the Democratic Union For Lithuania and the Lithuanian Union of Peasants, Greens and Christian Families.
