Jakobi Gallery opens joint exhibition by Kuusing and Oolberg

Toomas Kuusing and Taavi Oolberg have opened a joint exhibition at Jakobi Gallery, an art gallery in Tartu, ERR reported. The exhibition, titled “Disappearing Cities,” also features guest contributions from street artist Edward von Lõngus.

The exhibition explores change, memory and disappearance, focusing on how old worlds break down and new ones emerge. Kuusing’s everyday mythological worlds, intertwined with magical realism, meet Oolberg’s works, which centre on change as a continuous and inevitable process.

Together, the artists reflect on the constant transformation of the world and humanity, inviting visitors to consider what remains when familiar forms disappear.

Kuusing graduated from EKA’s fine arts programme in 2005. He has been a member of the Non Grata art collective since 2001 and has participated in its performances and exhibitions in Europe, Asia, North and South America. His work is held in collections including those of the Estonian Museum of Art, the Tartu Art Museum, the Mark Rothko Art Center, the Contemporary Graphic Art Museum, Museo Internacional de la Gráfica and the China Printmaking Museum.

Oolberg is an artist, illustrator and cartoonist from Võrumaa. He graduated from the media and advertising art department of Tartu Art College in 2014. He has illustrated and designed various books and games. His art mainly uses painting and sculptural objects, as well as other moving media. He currently works in the forests of southern Estonia.

“Disappearing Cities” will remain open at Jakobi Gallery until September 4.
