Firefighters extinguish Rääma peat bog fire

Firefighters had extinguished a fire at the Rääma peat bog in Tori municipality by Tuesday, ERR reported, after a drone inspection found no remaining hotspots.

Rescue Service communications chief Anu Villmann said firefighters surveyed the bog by drone before 8 a.m. on Tuesday and detected no sources of fire.

The Emergency Response Centre received a report at 1:08 p.m. on Monday that a fire was burning across approximately 10 hectares of the Rääma peat bog in Kilksama village, Pärnu County. Strong winds complicated the firefighting effort.

Because several hotspots were located in the peat, firefighters used drones to determine the size of the fire area and locate all remaining sources of fire.

Professional and volunteer firefighters from Pärnu, Pärnu-Jaagupi, Paide, Häädemeeste, Vändra, Sindi, Are and Taali responded to the blaze on Monday.
