Lithuania turns back nine migrants at Belarus border

Nine migrants were turned back at Lithuania’s border with Belarus over the past 24 hours, the State Border Guard Service said Tuesday, according to LRT.

Latvian border guards turned back 87 migrants on Monday, while Polish authorities prevented 11 attempts to enter the country illegally on Sunday.

More than 1,000 migrants have been denied entry to Lithuania so far this year.

Last year, migrants attempted to enter Lithuania illegally from Belarus more than 1,600 times. The figure was 1,002 in the previous year.

Since the start of the migration crisis linked to Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have prevented more than 25,600 foreigners from entering the country illegally.

The influx of migrants into the eastern EU member states from Belarus began in 2021. Western countries accuse the regime in Minsk of organising it.
