Fire burns across 10 hectares of Rääma peat bog

A fire is burning across approximately 10 hectares of Rääma peat bog in Kilksama village, Tori municipality, Pärnu County, ERR reported. The Emergency Centre received the report at 1:08 p.m. on Monday.

Strong winds are making firefighting difficult. The Estonian Rescue Board has asked residents near the bog, including those in Kilksama, Selja and Lepplaane, to keep their doors and windows closed and to shut off ventilation. People have also been urged not to visit the area to watch the fire.

Because several fire hotspots are located in the peat, rescuers used drones to survey the bog, assess the size of the burned area and locate all the hotspots.

Professional and volunteer rescuers from Pärnu, Pärnu-Jaagupi, Paide, Häädemeeste, Vändra, Sindi, Are and Taali responded to the fire.
