Heat to return to Lithuania by the weekend

Cooler, changeable and locally rainy weather will dominate the first half of the week in Lithuania, but an anticyclone will bring back warmer conditions from Thursday, LRT reported, citing forecaster Teresė Kaunienė of the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service.

A cold atmospheric front will pass across the country on Tuesday night. The night will be cloudy with clear spells, and short showers are expected in many areas, with the greatest chance of rain in southwestern districts. Thunderstorms are also possible. Daytime showers and thunderstorms are forecast in many districts, with hail or small ice pellets possible in some places. Temperatures will range from 12 to 17 degrees Celsius overnight and from 18 to 23 degrees during the day.

Conditions will begin to change on Wednesday. The sky will be variably cloudy, with brief light rain in places. Westerly and northwesterly winds will reach 7 to 12 metres per second. Temperatures will fall to 8 to 13 degrees overnight, or 14 to 17 degrees on the coast, and rise to 18 to 23 degrees during the day.

More sunshine and a lower chance of rain are expected on Thursday. Temperatures will drop to 7 to 12 degrees overnight, or 13 to 16 degrees on the coast, before reaching 19 to 24 degrees during the day.

On Friday, Lithuania will gradually move into the warmer western part of the anticyclone, bringing sunny and dry weather. Overnight temperatures will be around 8 to 13 degrees, or 14 to 17 degrees on the coast, while daytime temperatures will reach 21 to 26 degrees.

Saturday is expected to remain mostly sunny and dry. Temperatures will range from 10 to 15 degrees overnight, or 16 to 19 degrees on the coast, and rise to 24 to 29 degrees during the day.

Sunday night will be calm and very warm, with rain possible mainly on the coast. Brief showers and thunderstorms may develop during the day, mostly in northwestern Lithuania. Temperatures will reach 21 to 26 degrees in northwestern districts and 27 to 31 degrees elsewhere.
