Temperatures to reach 29C before cooler weather arrives

Temperatures in Lithuania will rise to 24 to 29 degrees Celsius on Monday before cooler weather arrives on Tuesday, LRT reports. The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service forecaster Simona Dalinkevičiūtė told LRT Radio that the first half of Monday will be sunny with limited cloud cover.

Clouds will thicken in western parts of the country after midday, with brief rain expected there towards evening. Isolated thunderstorms are possible, while southerly winds will strengthen and turn westerly on the coast, reaching 7 to 13 metres per second.

On Tuesday, Cyclone Karolina and a cold atmospheric front will affect the weather. The front will pass overnight, bringing brief heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Southwesterly to westerly winds will remain unsettled, with gusts near the coast reaching up to 15 metres per second. Overnight temperatures will fall to 11 to 16 degrees. During the day, brief rain will affect much of the country as the front moves away and convective rain clouds develop. Isolated thunderstorms are possible, particularly in western districts, where wind gusts could reach 15 to 18 metres per second. Daytime temperatures will range from 18 to 23 degrees.

High pressure will gradually strengthen on Wednesday. Brief rain is still possible in some places during both the day and night, while northwesterly winds will ease. Temperatures will fall to 8 to 13 degrees overnight, reaching 14 to 17 degrees on the coast, and rise to 18 to 23 degrees during the day.

From Thursday, a high-pressure system is expected to establish itself fully over the region, bringing a period of dry weather. Night-time temperatures on Thursday and Friday will be around 7 to 12 degrees, with slightly warmer conditions on the coast.

Daytime temperatures are forecast to reach 19 to 24 degrees on Thursday and 21 to 26 degrees on Friday. It will be warmer at the weekend, with temperatures rising by a degree or two each day. Some areas could again reach 30 degrees on Sunday.
