TS-LKD opens supporter registration for Kaunas mayoral primary

The Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) will open registration on Saturday for supporters to take part in its open selection of a candidate for mayor of Kaunas, LRT reported.

TS-LKD chairman Laurynas Kasčiūnas said the open election would allow both party members and Kaunas residents to choose which of five candidates should be nominated for the upcoming municipal elections.

“It is very important that the people of Kaunas themselves have the opportunity to choose the mayor they would like to entrust with governing their city,” Kasčiūnas said in a statement. He added that the party was seeking to regain the trust of Kaunas residents and was inviting those who shared TS-LKD values to take part in the decision.

The five candidates are public figure and businessman Šarūnas Jasiukevičius, Kaunas City Council member Andrijana Filinaitė, Kaunas TS-LKD Centre branch chairman Rokas Mickus, Kaunas TS-LKD Dainava branch chairwoman Audronė Baronienė, and former journalist and communications specialist Dainoras Lukas.

Supporter registration will run from August 8 to 20. The TS-LKD mayoral candidate election will take place in Kaunas on August 29 and 30.

Municipal council and mayoral elections are scheduled for spring 2027. The political campaign for candidates taking part in those elections will begin on September 1, 2026.
