Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, leader of the Liberal Movement, says she has not ruled out running for president, but believes it is too early to begin campaigning, LRT reported.

“I do not rule out such an idea, but in my view it is far too early to start now. All serious political parties understand that the most important election at present is the 2027 municipal election, and that we should be thinking about it,” Čmilytė-Nielsen told Žinių radijas, a radio station, on Friday.

She said early campaigns generally did not bring anyone success.

Čmilytė-Nielsen also said the Liberal Movement would not assess potential presidential candidates from other parties or independent candidates as their names began to be discussed publicly.

“We liberals do not intend to assess candidates from other parties or independent candidates. We will probably focus on our own candidate,” she said.

Presidential elections are scheduled for May 2029. Čmilytė-Nielsen said the municipal and parliamentary elections would take place before then and should be the immediate focus.
