Estonia’s consumer price index rises 2.2 percent year on year

Estonia’s consumer price index rose 0.5 percent in July from June and 2.2 percent from July 2025, ERR reported, citing Statistics Estonia. Goods were 1 percent more expensive year on year, while services rose 3.9 percent.

Lauri Veski, head of the Statistics Estonia consumer price statistics service, said the annual increase was relatively small. He said the last time annual inflation was this low was in April 2021. Higher housing, transport, alcohol and tobacco prices were offset by cheaper food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Housing-related prices were mainly affected by price changes introduced in July. Waste collection became 52.2 percent more expensive than in June in connection with the waste reform. Water supply prices rose 6.6 percent during the month, driven by a price increase in Tallinn. Rents rose 4 percent, while electricity prices fell 4.1 percent.

Compared with July 2025, electricity was still 13.9 percent more expensive, mainly because hot periods had reduced hydropower availability, Veski said. Piped gas prices rose 26.2 percent over the same period.

Petrol prices increased 1.2 percent from June and diesel prices rose 0.4 percent. Year on year, petrol was 6.2 percent more expensive and diesel 12.8 percent more expensive, while international flights became 11.4 percent cheaper.

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products rose 6.4 percent in a year, with the January 2026 excise duty increase also contributing to the rise. Food and non-alcoholic beverages became 1.6 percent cheaper year on year.

Food prices rose 0.4 percent during July. Over the year, fruit and nuts became 10.8 percent cheaper, while milk, dairy products and eggs fell 3.1 percent and vegetables fell 3.8 percent. Fish and fish products rose 6.1 percent, and soft drinks increased 4 percent.
