Man suspected of killing wife and himself with illegal gun

A man is suspected of shooting his wife before taking his own life in Varėna district, LRT reported. Police said the gun found at the scene was illegally held and unregistered.

The bodies of a woman born in 1975 and a man born in 1973 were found in a house in Vazgirdoniai village at about 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police found a 16 gauge single barrel hunting rifle next to the man’s body. Investigators suspect that the man shot the woman and then himself. A pretrial investigation has been opened.

According to the Emergency Response Centre, neighbours who heard gunshots alerted authorities and found the bodies.

Police had not previously received reports of domestic violence at the home. The man suspected of the killing had previously received an administrative penalty for not having valid vehicle insurance and technical inspection documents.
