Scammers defraud man and company of about 21,000 euros
Lithuania Scammers defrauded a man and a company of about 21,000 euros, LRT reported, citing police. Separate investigations have been opened into both cases.
A man born in 1968 told police on Wednesday that he had responded to an online advertisement for investment services on May 15. Unknown people then contacted him by phone and, speaking Russian, persuaded him to invest in an online investment platform. He was defrauded of 13,400 euros.
In another case, a company in Juodeikiai village, Mažeikiai district, transferred 7,590 euros on December 11 last year for a Kubota KX016-4 mini excavator advertised online. The company did not receive the excavator and the money was not returned, according to the Telšiai County Chief Police Commissariat.
Police have also opened a theft investigation after an elderly woman was robbed in the capital on Wednesday morning.
An unknown woman entered the apartment of a resident born in 1936 on Viršuliškių Street, claiming that she had brought her pension. She asked the woman to look for change. When the apartment owner took out her savings and searched for the change, the visitor grabbed all the money and fled. The damage was estimated at 7,000 euros.
