Magonis and Osinovskis appeal bribery convictions

Former Latvian Railways board chairman Uģis Magonis and Estonian businessman Oļegs Osinovskis have filed cassation complaints in a bribery case, LSM reported.

The complaints challenge a ruling by the Riga Regional Court before the Supreme Court.

At the end of 2025, the regional court found both men guilty, overturning a first-instance ruling. The court concluded that Magonis accepted a bribe from Osinovskis.

The appellate court initially sentenced Magonis to three years in prison and Osinovskis to two years and 10 months. It also found that their right to have the criminal proceedings completed within a reasonable time had not been respected.

As a result, the court reduced Magonis’s prison sentence to two and a half years and imposed a fine of more than 150,000 euros on Osinovskis.

The prosecution has not filed a cassation protest.
