Latvia’s State Blood Donor Centre is urging people to donate blood from all blood groups, with particular shortages of O-negative, A-negative and B-negative blood, LSM reported. Donor activity traditionally declines during the summer while demand from hospitals remains high.
The centre said blood donations are especially important in the summer months. Many people are on holiday, travelling or spending more time outside cities, but hospitals continue to need blood components.
The number of injuries increases during the summer, while scheduled and emergency operations continue, along with treatment for cancer and other patients. Blood cannot be replaced, making donor support essential for saving lives. Each donation can help several patients.
To make donating more accessible, the centre organises mobile donation drives in locations across Latvia. Residents are encouraged to check the schedule at www.donors.lv and on social media to find a convenient donation location. Donors are also welcome at permanent blood donation sites.
