Police arrest convicted man hiding for more than a month

Vladislavas Gaticho, who had been hiding for more than a month after fleeing while serving his sentence, was arrested in Vilnius district on Tuesday morning, LRT reported, citing the Lithuanian Prison Service.

The man, who was born in 1994, was detained in the Baltosios Vokės eldership and taken to Pravieniškės 1st Prison. A woman wanted by police was also arrested with him and handed over to the Vilnius County Chief Police Commissariat.

The Prison Service said a pre-trial investigation was launched on June 30 after Gaticho tried to remove his electronic monitoring device and fled during a short-term trip to the Republican Centre for Addictive Disorders in Vilnius.

Officers who went to the device’s last recorded location found the monitoring equipment damaged, but Gaticho was not there.
