Heat to hit Lithuania as storms and gusty winds arrive

Heat will spread across Lithuania this week, with temperatures reaching 32°C and thunderstorms and strong wind gusts expected, LRT reports, citing Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service forecaster Tadas Kantautas. The heat will ease by the weekend, bringing calmer and cooler weather.

Warmer conditions will begin developing on Tuesday. The night will be mostly clear, although brief rain is possible in some southern districts. Temperatures will fall to 9–14°C before rising to 24–29°C during the day. Cloud cover will remain limited and the chance of rain will be low.

Wednesday will be even warmer, with mostly clear and dry conditions. Temperatures will reach 27–32°C in the afternoon as a light southerly wind brings warmer air. In some areas, mainly in western districts, cloud formations may produce summer showers and thunderstorms. Wind gusts could reach 15–20 metres per second.

A weakening atmospheric front will cross the country on Thursday. The weather will be changeable, with rain in some areas both at night and during the day. Short-lived showers and thunderstorms are expected mainly in central, southern and eastern Lithuania overnight, and mostly in southern districts during the day.

The wind will gradually shift from the south and southwest to the west and northwest and strengthen slightly. Gusts of up to 15–17 metres per second are possible during thunderstorms. Temperatures will remain high, ranging from 15–20°C at night to 26–31°C during the day, although the western edge of the country will be cooler at 22–25°C.

From Friday, higher atmospheric pressure will settle over Lithuania, reducing the chance of rain. A brief shower and thunderstorm will remain possible in some places overnight, while daytime conditions will be mostly dry. Temperatures will drop to 13–18°C at night and reach 20–25°C during the day.

Rain is expected to remain unlikely over the weekend. With dry weather prevailing, nighttime temperatures will range from 9–15°C and daytime temperatures from 18–24°C.
