Court restricts freedom of Elektrėnai man over January 13 denial

The Vilnius Regional District Court convicted a resident of Elektrėnai of publicly denying and grossly belittling the January 13 aggression, and imposed an eight-month restriction of freedom, LRT reported, citing the Prosecutor General’s Office.

During the sentence, the man must remain at his home except when travelling to a healthcare facility or work. He is also barred from leaving the city where he lives without permission from the institution supervising him and must either start working or register with the Employment Service.

According to the case file, R. M. shared a video about the January 13 events on his public Facebook account on January 13 this year. In an accompanying post, he claimed that mannequins, rather than people, had been placed under the tracks of a tank.

The court found that the post publicly denied and grossly belittled, in an insulting and offensive manner, serious crimes committed against Lithuania’s residents by people who carried out or took part in aggression against Lithuania in 1990 and 1991.

The court’s criminal order was not appealed and has entered into force.
