Mai Kraft takes over Estonia’s cybersecurity centre

Mai Kraft has taken over as head of the cybersecurity centre of Estonia’s State Information System Authority and as deputy director general for cybersecurity, ERR reported. She succeeds Gert Auväärti, who was appointed Estonia’s ambassador to Canada.

Kraft is a cybersecurity expert and manager with long-term experience in technology and information security. She holds a master’s degree in cyber defence from Tallinn University of Technology.

For the past eight years, Kraft has served as information security manager at Elisa Estonia, where she was responsible for the company’s cybersecurity strategy, risk management, compliance, security incident response and information security management system.

She is also an active cybersecurity advocate with an extensive network in the cybersecurity community.

State Information System Authority Director General Joonas Heiter said Kraft was selected from a strong field of candidates. Twenty-two people applied in the public competition, with several experts with significant cybersecurity and strategic management experience reaching the final round.

Heiter said Kraft’s knowledge, experience and commitment would help strengthen both the authority and Estonia’s overall cyber resilience in response to increasingly complex and rapidly evolving cyber threats.
