Man charged after disrupting Kaunas court hearing

Prosecutors have sent a criminal case to court against a 34-year-old man accused of insulting a judge and damaging property during a hearing at Kaunas Regional Court, LRT reported.

The Kaunas District Prosecutor’s Office said the man was detained during a public hearing on May 18. He allegedly objected to a judge’s decision, used obscene language and threw a document folder towards the judge despite being warned to follow courtroom rules.

According to the investigation, the man then struck a glass temporary detention room twice. One pane and its frame were damaged, causing property damage estimated at 363 euros.

Prosecutors said the alleged actions disrupted the court proceedings and public order.

The man faces charges of contempt of court and violating public order. The maximum penalty provided for these offenses is up to two years in prison.

The case will be heard by the Kaunas District Court’s Kaunas division.
