Kulbergs’ party leads July poll as Greens and Farmers fall below threshold

Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs’ United List continued to gain support in July, becoming Latvia’s most popular political force, while the Union of Greens and Farmers fell below the 5% threshold, according to an SKDS poll published by LSM.

The survey was conducted from July 10 to 15 and asked respondents which party or alliance they would vote for if parliamentary elections were held the following day. The figures cover all eligible voters, including those who had not decided how to vote or said they would not participate.

Support for the United List rose to 12.2% in July from 9.8% in June. Sovereign Power and the Association for Young Latvians ranked second, increasing to 11.4% from 8.6%.

Latvia First and the Progressives also recorded slight increases. The National Alliance remained unchanged at 5.5%, while New Unity rose from 4.2% to 4.3%.

Support for the Union of Greens and Farmers continued to decline, falling to 2.9% in July from 4.4% in June.

The other parties listed in the poll were We Change the Rules, For Stability!, For Latvia’s Development, Harmony Centre, Rising Sun for Latvia, the New Conservative Party and the Gobzems List.

Some 23.4% of respondents did not know whom they would vote for, while 11.5% said they would not participate in the election.

When the results were recalculated to include only respondents who had decided how to vote and were willing to participate, six parties cleared the 5% threshold: the United List, Sovereign Power and the Association for Young Latvians, Latvia First, the Progressives, the National Alliance and New Unity. The Union of Greens and Farmers remained below the threshold.

Latvia’s 15th parliamentary election is scheduled for October 3. Polling stations will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and voters will be able to cast their ballots at any polling station.
