Forecasters warn of severe storms in Lithuania this evening

Severe storms could develop in Lithuania this evening, LRT reported. A level-two storm warning has been issued for the country’s southern and southeastern regions, according to the Facebook page Weather and Climate in Lithuania.

Large hail, strong wind gusts and intense rainfall are forecast. Particularly stormy weather was recorded near Joniskis and Alytus on Friday evening.

Saturday will be cloudy with sunny intervals. Short spells of rain are expected in many districts, with heavy rain in some places. Thunderstorms will occur across most of the country, and stronger storm clouds could produce small hail.

During thunderstorms, wind gusts could reach 15 to 20 metres per second in some areas, Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service forecaster Tadas Kantautas told LRT Radio.
