Kuivonen and Jürgenson finish second in Qidong group

Estonian beach volleyball players Eva Liisa Kuivonen and Liisa-Lotta Jürgenson finished second in their group at the Futures level World Tour event in Qidong, China, ERR reported.
The Estonian pair opened Group A with a 2-0 win over Brazil’s Geovania de Lima Soares and Emanuely Pereira Cardoso, the ninth seeds, winning 21-15 and 21-18.
In the match for first place in the group, Kuivonen and Jürgenson lost 0-2 to top-seeded Chinese players Xu Yan and Xinyi Xia. The set scores were 10-21 and 10-21.
The Estonians will continue in the last 12 on Saturday. At 4.50 a.m. Estonian time, they will face the eighth-seeded Chinese pair Ming Zhuang and Jiaying Wang in the opening round of the knockout stage.
The winners will meet another Chinese pair, Tong Yu and Aheidan Mushajiang, in the quarterfinals. The seventh-seeded pair won Group B after coming through qualifying.
