Weather to cool after exceptionally hot Friday

Weather will become cooler in Lithuania over the coming days after a surge of summer warmth on Friday, LRT reports, citing Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service forecaster Edita Gečaitė.

Saturday night will be partly cloudy, with fog reducing visibility in some areas. A wavy atmospheric front will reach Lithuania towards dawn, bringing brief thunderstorms and rain in places, particularly in southwestern districts. Thunderstorms may produce stronger winds, with gusts of 15–17 metres per second. Temperatures will remain between 14 and 19 degrees Celsius.

During the day, the front’s damp and stormy clouds will continue moving across the country. Brief thunderstorms are expected in many districts, with shifting wind gusts of 15–18 metres per second. Hail is also possible in some areas. Temperatures will reach 23–28 degrees, while some western districts will see 20–22 degrees.

Rain will continue in many areas on Sunday night as clouds associated with a cold atmospheric front remain over Lithuania. The heaviest rainfall is expected in the eastern part of the country, where some areas could receive substantial amounts. Thunderstorms will persist, with northwesterly and westerly wind gusts reaching 15–17 metres per second in places. Temperatures will fall to 12–17 degrees, with the coolest conditions in Samogitia.

Sunday will be considerably drier. Brief rain is possible in some areas before noon, after which the clouds will clear. Moderate northwesterly and westerly winds will blow, and temperatures will rise to 21–26 degrees.

High pressure will settle over Lithuania at the beginning of next week, bringing dry and mostly clear weather. Monday night will be calm, with light winds and temperatures of 9–14 degrees, or 15–17 degrees on the Curonian Spit. During the day, light winds of variable direction will prevail, and temperatures will reach 22–27 degrees.

Warmer air will begin moving in again later. Tuesday night will remain dry and calm, with temperatures falling to 11–16 degrees. Most of the country will stay dry during the day, although brief, light rain is possible in some areas, particularly in southern districts. Temperatures will rise to 25–30 degrees.
