Edgaras Skrebė appointed head of Environmental Protection Department

Edgaras Skrebė took over as director of Lithuania’s Environmental Protection Department on Friday, LRT reported, citing the department.

Skrebė previously headed the department’s Vilnius Environmental Protection Division. He has management and legal experience in environmental protection and public administration.

He replaces Eglė Paužolienė, who had been serving as acting director. Skrebė’s term will last five years, with the possibility of a further five-year extension.

Skrebė holds master’s degrees in law and philosophy. He has also worked at the Office of the Seimas, the Lithuanian Bar Association and in the private sector.

The Environment Ministry announced the competition for the position on February 19. The first competition was launched in October last year after former department director Giedrius Kadziauskas stepped down in July.

Paužolienė won that competition while serving as acting director, but then-Environment Minister Kastytis Žuromskas decided to hold a new selection process, saying he wanted more candidates to take part.
