Riga to add new pedestrian crossings in several locations

Riga plans to install new pedestrian crossings in several locations to improve pedestrian safety and make it easier to cross roads, LSM reported. The work is scheduled to be completed by September 5.

New crossings are planned on Firsa Sadovņikova Street near Krāslavas Street and on Tilta Street near Aptiekas Street.

The visibility of the crossings will also be improved. Temporary lighting is planned for the crossing on Tilta Street, while the existing lighting near the planned crossing on Firsa Sadovņikova Street will be upgraded.

Changes are also planned at the intersections of Tallinas Street with Vārnu Street and Krāsotāju Street. Crossings will be installed across both Vārnu and Krāsotāju streets, along with one new crossing across Tallinas Street near Vārnu Street and two crossings across Tallinas Street near Krāsotāju Street.

The work will use relatively simple measures that can be introduced quickly, including road signs, road markings and barriers. The planned traffic-calming measures are intended to create a safer traffic environment, improve pedestrian visibility and make it safer to cross the road.

The municipality has urged road users to be especially careful in areas where traffic arrangements are changed during the work, and to follow the posted road signs and the designated traffic arrangements.
