State of emergency declared in Šalčininkai district forests due to wind damage

A state of emergency has been declared in the forests of Šalčininkai district due to wind damage, the Environment Ministry reported.

Special protection measures and emergency response efforts to clear the damage in the forests will be implemented in the municipality. According to the ministry, strong winds have uprooted or broken more than 30,000 cubic meters of trees in state-owned forests in the district.

Following the declaration, forest managers, owners, and users must inspect their forest holdings within 10 calendar days and implement mandatory sanitary forest protection measures as announced by the State Forest Service. Permits to remove wind-damaged trees will be issued under an expedited procedure.
