Scammers swindle nearly €18,400 from four people

Scammers have defrauded four residents of Kaunas, Tauragė, Šilalė district, and Klaipėda of nearly €18,400, according to a report by the Lithuanian Police Department, as cited by LRT.

A 79-year-old woman from Kaunas reported that unknown Russian-speaking individuals called her, posing as employees of Google, a bank, and police officers. They deceived her into handing over €10,000 to an unknown man who arrived at her home.

In Tauragė, a 30-year-old man transferred €1,635 to a seller’s bank account for a drone he never received, after arranging the purchase via Facebook. The money was not refunded.

In Šilalė district, a 64-year-old woman was scammed out of €5,000 on July 22. Pre-trial investigations into the fraud cases have been launched.

In Klaipėda, a 53-year-old man received an SMS about an alleged administrative offense, clicked a link, entered the requested details, and later discovered that €1,799 had been fraudulently taken from his bank account. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated for the unauthorised use of electronic payment means or data.
