Migration department again asks VSD to assess threat posed by Belarusian
Lithuania’s Migration Department has again asked the State Security Department (VSD) to reassess whether a Belarusian citizen living in Lithuania, Andrey Shimanovich, poses a threat to national security, LRT reports.
The request follows a report by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) that detailed Shimanovich’s alleged involvement in developing software potentially capable of transmitting data to Russia and Belarus.
The Migration Department has also contacted the National Cyber Security Centre and the Lithuanian Criminal Police Bureau, asking them to evaluate the reliability of the software mentioned in the report, including its internal code, potential security vulnerabilities, and other aspects that could help determine its possible malicious intent.
A final decision on the Belarusian’s legal status in Lithuania will be made after receiving conclusions from all responsible institutions.
