Police uncover cannabis cultivation lab in Telšiai district, four suspects identified

Police in Telšiai district have uncovered an illegal cannabis cultivation laboratory in the Varnių eldership, with four individuals now under suspicion, the Telšiai District Police reported on Tuesday.

According to authorities, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into the suspected large-scale illegal cultivation and distribution of cannabis. During the probe, criminal investigators conducted searches at the residences and frequented locations of the suspects on July 23.

In a single-family home in Varnių eldership, officers discovered what is believed to be a cannabis cultivation laboratory in the basement. The search yielded a large quantity of cannabis and plant parts, stored in vacuum-sealed packages and aluminium containers. Authorities also seized uprooted cannabis plants, scales, mobile phones, and equipment used for cultivation. Additionally, over €40,000 in cash, four motorcycles—possibly purchased with proceeds from criminal activity—crossbows with bolts, and 12-gauge ammunition were confiscated.

Under Lithuania’s Criminal Code, the distribution of large quantities of narcotic substances carries a penalty of 10 to 15 years in prison.
