President Nausėda administers oaths to eight new judges

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has signed a decree appointing eight new judges and administered their oaths of office, the Presidential Office announced on Monday.

Following the Constitution and the advice of the Council of Judges, the president formally appointed the judges, who pledged to uphold loyalty to Lithuania, perform their duties with integrity, administer justice in accordance with the Constitution and laws, and protect human rights, freedoms, and legitimate interests.

“There should be no doubt that being a judge is not a privilege. It is a public commitment to the people of Lithuania to handle cases and administer justice impartially, guided solely by the Constitution and the law. This will not be an easy task, as the requirements set by legal acts and public expectations can sometimes differ significantly,” the president was quoted as saying.

The appointees are Edita Bumblienė (Vilnius City District Court), Artūras Petkus (Panevėžys Regional Court), Ričardas Pocius (Tauragė District Court, Tauragė Division), Mindaugas Radvila (Tauragė District Court, Tauragė Division), Ugnė Rėkutė (Vilnius Regional Court, Trakai Division), Rasa Volungevičienė (Vilnius City District Court), Giedrė Žemaitytė-Keperšienė (Vilnius City District Court), and Tomas Žilinskas (Vilnius City District Court).
