Polish nationals charged with stealing from car wash terminals

Two Polish citizens have been charged with theft and property damage after allegedly stealing money from self-service car wash payment terminals across Lithuania, the Šiaulių District Prosecutor’s Office reported.

The suspects, currently in pretrial detention, are accused of breaking into car wash payment terminals in multiple cities between February and March of this year. Using metal cutting tools, they allegedly stole cash from terminals in Kuršėnai, Ukmergė, Jurbarkas, and Vilkaviškys, as well as attempting to rob another in Šiauliai.

According to investigators, the stolen amounts were €5,900 in Vilkaviškys, €2,156 in Jurbarkas, €3,593 in Ukmergė, and €33 in Kuršėnai. The total value of damaged property exceeds €15,000.

Under Lithuanian law, theft of another’s property can result in fines, restriction of liberty, arrest, or imprisonment for up to six years. For property destruction, penalties may include community service, fines, restriction of liberty, or imprisonment for up to two years.
