Cannabis plants found in Kupiškis district farmhouse

Police in Panevėžys have uncovered a cannabis cultivation operation in a farmhouse in the Kupiškis district, LRT reports.

A 1994-born man was detained after officers discovered around 60 pots of cannabis in an outbuilding on his property. According to law enforcement, the space was equipped with special lamps and ventilation for growing the plants.

The suspect remains in custody, with a court decision on pretrial detention expected on Thursday. Authorities have launched a pre-trial investigation into the illegal cultivation of hemp or cannabis, which carries potential penalties ranging from community service or fines to restriction of liberty, arrest, or up to five years in prison.
