Police launch investigation into possible hate speech comment on Facebook

Lithuanian police have launched a pre-trial investigation into a Facebook comment that may incite hatred against a group of people based on sexual orientation, LRT reports.

According to the Telšiai District Chief Police Commissariat, a man born in 1981 posted a comment under a public Facebook page entry on July 20 in Telšiai. The comment is suspected of promoting hatred against a group due to their sexual orientation.

The investigation has been initiated under laws prohibiting incitement against any national, racial, ethnic, religious, or other group.
