A fire in an outbuilding in the Šilutė district’s Inkakliai village on Tuesday evening killed 30 rabbits and caused a gas balloon to explode, shattering windows in a nearby house, the Fire and Rescue Department reported on Wednesday.

Emergency services received the call at 17:39. Upon arrival, firefighters found the single-storey building with a loft—used as a sauna and garage—engulfed in flames. They removed six gas balloons from the structure. The Energy Distribution Operator cut power at 19:14.

The fire destroyed the roof, damaged walls, and ruined household items inside the building, which was flooded with water. A large quantity of firewood and hay also burned. A wooden gazebo five metres away was partially damaged, while the gas balloon explosion shattered windows in an adjacent residential house.

Firefighters managed to save part of the household items, the residential house two metres from the fire site, another outbuilding, 50 rabbits, and 10 chickens.
