Lithuanian border guards turn back 28 irregular migrants at Belarus border

Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service (VSAT) reported on Monday that its officers turned back 28 irregular migrants at the border with Belarus over the past week.

Latvian border guards repelled two migrants on Sunday, while Polish authorities recorded no attempts to cross the border illegally on Saturday.

This year, Lithuania has denied entry to 957 irregular migrants. In 2025, there were over 1,600 recorded attempts to enter the country illegally from Belarus, compared to 1,002 in the previous year.

Since the start of the migration crisis instigated by Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have prevented more than 25,500 foreigners from entering the country illegally.

The influx of migrants to the EU’s eastern members via Belarus began in 2021, with Western officials accusing the Minsk regime of orchestrating the crisis.
