attempted murder, pre-trial detention, Šiauliai

A court in Šiauliai has imposed the strictest pre-trial detention measure on two men suspected of attempting to murder a 35-year-old local resident, LRT.lt reports.

The Šiauliai District Court on Friday granted a prosecutor’s request in full, ordering the suspects—a 36-year-old and a 41-year-old—be held in custody for three months. The men, born in 1990 and 1985, were arrested on the evening of July 15 in Jonava.

The incident occurred around 12:20 PM on July 15 on Vairo Street in Šiauliai, where a firearm was used to target the victim, also damaging his BMW X6 vehicle. The injured man received medical assistance and was later released to recover at home.

Initially classified as a public order violation, the case was reclassified as attempted murder after investigators gathered evidence suggesting an intent to kill the man inside the car. Authorities argued the suspects could attempt to evade justice or obstruct the investigation, justifying their pre-trial detention. The court hearing was held remotely, with the suspects not physically present.
