Video of teen assault in Marijampolė park spreads online, suspect possibly 12-year-old

A video showing a teenage girl assaulting another girl in a park in Marijampolė has spread on social media, with police confirming they have launched an investigation. The footage, which emerged on Wednesday evening, appears to show a 12-year-old as the suspected attacker, according to local authorities.

The video depicts one girl sitting on a bench with her head down while another climbs onto the bench and strikes her repeatedly in the head with a phone. A second girl then takes the phone and also hits the victim, pulling her hair. Several onlookers, including other teens, can be seen watching and laughing, but no one intervenes to stop the assault.

Justė Vasiliauskienė, a senior specialist at the Marijampolė District Chief Police Commissariat, confirmed to LRT.lt and ELTA that a report about the incident had been received. “We were contacted. Preliminary information suggests the suspect is a 12-year-old. Last night, we began clarifying the circumstances of the case,” she said.

Vasiliauskienė added that police received a statement from the victim’s mother around 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Authorities have not yet released further details about the incident or the victim’s condition. The investigation is ongoing.
