Lithuanian prime minister meets Latvian president to strengthen regional security
Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius met with Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs on Tuesday to discuss regional security, bilateral cooperation, and strategic projects, reports BNS.
The meeting highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Lithuania and Latvia, as well as their close collaboration within the EU, NATO, the Northern and Baltic Eight (NB8), and the Baltic Council of Ministers.
“Lithuania and Latvia share a common responsibility for regional security and prosperity, a shared assessment of threats and challenges, and an understanding that we are stronger together. My government sees the strategic partnership of the Baltic states as extremely important, and I have no doubt it will only grow stronger,” Sinkevičius said.
The leaders emphasized the need to further strengthen NATO’s eastern flank security and resilience against both conventional and hybrid threats. They also underscored the importance of cooperation in developing defense industry capabilities, particularly in drones and counter-drone systems, as well as continued support for Ukraine.
Key infrastructure projects such as Rail Baltica and Via Baltica remain priorities for both countries, as they are vital for regional connectivity, military mobility, and economic growth.
President Rinkēvičs congratulated Sinkevičius on his recent swearing-in as prime minister and wished his government success in its work.
