Lithuania’s newly appointed Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius made his first foreign calls to his Baltic counterparts, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal and Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs, the government reported on Tuesday.

During the conversations, Sinkevičius emphasised the 21st Cabinet’s efforts to further strengthen cooperation among the Baltic states in security, resilience, and welfare, according to a government statement.

“Baltic countries must utilise every format of cooperation to make our region even safer, more resilient, faster-growing, and more competitive in attracting investment,” the prime minister was quoted as saying.

He highlighted the importance of the Baltic Council of Ministers, which Estonia chairs this year, and the need for close coordination on key issues. Sinkevičius also stressed the necessity of continued joint support for Ukraine, maintaining allies’ and partners’ focus on achieving a just and lasting peace, accelerating the implementation of strategic infrastructure projects in the region, and strengthening transatlantic ties.

The new government held its first meeting on Tuesday, following the swearing-in of ministers in the Seimas the day before. The current ruling coalition, comprising the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, Democrats “For Lithuania,” and the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union, holds 75 seats in the 141-member parliament.
