New Lithuanian government takes office after swearing-in ceremony
Lithuania’s 21st government officially began work on Tuesday after Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius and his cabinet were sworn in at the Seimas (parliament), following the approval of the government’s programme earlier in the day.
The new cabinet, formed after a coalition reshuffle, is the third since the 2024 parliamentary elections, which were won by the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party. The current ruling majority, comprising the Social Democrats, the Democrats “For Lithuania” and the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union, holds 75 seats in the 141-member Seimas.
