Lithuania’s 21st government begins work as Sinkevičius and cabinet take oath

Lithuania’s new government officially began its term on Tuesday after Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius and his cabinet were sworn in by the Seimas, the country’s parliament, LRT reports.

The Seimas approved Sinkevičius’ government and its programme earlier in the day, granting the cabinet the authority to start work. This is the third government formed since the 2024 parliamentary elections, which were won by the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party. The current ruling coalition, comprising the Social Democrats, Democrats “For Lithuania”, and the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union, holds 75 seats in the 141-member Seimas.

The 21st cabinet includes:

Finance Minister: Taurimas Valys
Transport Minister: Juras Taminskas
Education, Science and Sports Minister: Raminta Popovienė
Culture Minister: Lukas Alsys
Interior Minister: Martynas Katelynas
Justice Minister: Rita Tamašunienė
Economy and Innovation Minister: Edvinas Grikšas
Social Security and Labour Minister: Inga Ruginienė
Defence Minister: Robertas Kaunas
Environment Minister: Ieva Andriulaitytė
Health Minister: Linas Kukuraitis
Agriculture Minister: Kęstutis Mažeika
Energy Minister: Lukas Savickas
Foreign Minister: Kęstutis Budrys
