A fire broke out at a juvenile detention center in Kaunas on Monday evening, prompting the evacuation of 11 inmates, LRT reports.

Kaunas Fire and Rescue Service received a report at 18:59 that a fire had started in the facility, with smoke filling the premises and inmates being evacuated. Upon arrival, firefighters found that a television and a mattress in one of the cells were on fire. Staff had already begun extinguishing the blaze.

Firefighters used a powder extinguisher to fully suppress the fire and ventilate the area. Preliminary reports indicate the television was burned and melted, while the mattress was partially burned.

Eleven inmates were evacuated to the exercise yard before firefighters arrived. One prison officer inhaled smoke and required medical attention but later resumed duty after examination.
