Police report over €40,000 in fraud cases over the past two days

Lithuanian police have received reports of three fraud cases over the past two days, with victims losing a combined total of over €40,000, the BNS news agency reports.

A 89-year-old woman from Vilnius reported losing around €14,000 in various currencies after handing it over to an unknown man who called her, claiming to be a telecommunications department employee. The man spoke Russian and visited her home.

In another case, a 63-year-old resident of Kazlų Rūda municipality was defrauded of over €17,000 by Russian-speaking callers posing as employees of an investment platform. Similarly, a 88-year-old woman from Kaunas lost €10,000 under comparable circumstances.

Pre-trial investigations have been launched in all cases.
