Cloudy weekend ahead as summer warmth returns, say forecasters

Lithuania will see a cloudy weekend with rain in some areas, before warmer summer weather returns early next week, the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (LHMT) reports.

On Saturday night, a low-pressure system will move into the country. The morning will bring little rain and partial cloud cover, but clouds will thicken in the afternoon, with showers expected across much of northern Lithuania. Fog may form in some areas, with light northwesterly winds. Temperatures will drop to 9–14°C.

Saturday will remain overcast with occasional breaks, and widespread rain—heavy in places—is forecast. Sinoptikas Tadas Kantautas of LHMT noted that northwestern Lithuania will experience longer, more frequent, and intense rainfall, while southeastern regions may see isolated short showers with possible thunderstorms. Winds will be moderate northwesterly, strengthening to 15 m/s along the western coast. Daytime temperatures will reach 17–22°C, with the coolest conditions in Žemaitija and the warmest in Utena, Vilnius, and Alytus counties.

Sunday night will see brief showers in some areas, with variable winds calming and unstable cloud cover persisting. Fog may develop in places, and temperatures will fall to 10–15°C.

Sunday morning will bring denser clouds and brief showers in some areas. In the afternoon, more clear spells will appear, but as the air warms, cumulonimbus clouds will form, leading to short showers—with possible thunderstorms—in much of the country. Winds will be light northerly to northwesterly. A warmer air mass will push temperatures up to 21–26°C by the afternoon.

Monday will start with unstable cloud cover and possible showers, including thunderstorms in some areas. Daytime will see short summer downpours with thunderstorms across much of Lithuania. Light northerly and northwesterly winds will continue. Nighttime temperatures will drop to 12–17°C, while daytime highs will reach 24–29°C as warmth spreads across the country.

On Tuesday, brief showers and possible thunderstorms are expected in some areas, with light northerly winds. Nighttime temperatures will fall to 13–18°C, and daytime highs will reach 23–28°C.

By Wednesday, the likelihood of rain will be minimal, and temperatures will remain summery and warm, according to forecasters.
